Tee it up for Vision of Hope
The third annual Vision of Hope charity golf scramble was held Sunday, June 28th, 2015 at the Hawke Hollow golf course in Bath, Michigan. The outing is organized by the Opticians Association of Michigan, with proceeds going towards funding mission trips. Last year $2,100 was raised and this year a record number of golfers attended the event. We had four platinum sponsors from Optical Supply, Shamir, Vision Craft Laboratory, Zeiss Laboratory, and one gold sponsorship from Europa. We also had a raffle for several donated prizes.
I came up with the idea of the golf outing in 2013, because I love to play golf and I wanted to bring awareness of the opticianry profession to the general public. Vision of Hope was the charity I choose because it provides vision for the needy. The attendance for the 2015 charity event was 60 plus golfers which included 50/50, non-optical and opticians.
We would like to see other states do this and they don’t even have to know how to golf. All you have to do is find a desirable golf course that does numerous outings, pick a date and start talking to people about the event. Talk to vendors, sales people, other opticians, and then promote it to the general public, friends and family. You only need 5 to 6 volunteers to make the event successful. If you would like help, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
If you want to know how much we raised this year, come to the leadership meeting in 2016 for the reveal. My motto is, "If you want to be successful, then help somebody succeed", that is what opticians do one pair of glasses at a time.
